Exclusive: Alaska State Rep. Nellie Unangiq Jimmie Addresses the Typhoon Halong Disaster

Thousands of Alaska Natives have been displaced and their communities wrecked as a result of former Typhoon Halong. Now, under pressure from state leaders, President Donald Trump has issued a national disaster declaration so that recovery efforts can begin. This week, we interviewed State Rep. Nellie Unangiq Jimmie, who is Yupiq, Lakota, and Ojibwe.

She shared powerful details about these harrowing weeks for her constituents. We are honored that our relative entrusted us to share her experience in this way, and we are wowed by her sheer strength, vulnerability, and dedication on behalf of those she serves in the legislature. Please pray for the people in Alaska and look for ways to help, if you are able.
